Sun 18th Heathland Management at Wadsley & Loxley Common. Working for the Wadsley & Loxley Commoners, We will be pulling up bracken to prevent it shading out the Heather. We will be working close to the Long Lane end of the Common in the 'stone circle' Field, so its a fair walk from the Rural Lane End. If using public transport we will meet at the City Hall Steps for 9:30am and then either catch a 52a to Wisewood School on Ben Lane and walk to the common from there, or catch the Tram to the Hillsborough interchange and walk to the common from there. The Commoners are meeting at the Long Lane end car park at 10am. If you have your own transport, it will be best to use the Long Lane car park.

Sun 20th Heathland Management at Wadsley & Loxley Common. Working for the Wadsley & Loxley Commoners, We will be either removing small self-sown saplings, or raking off accumulated dead bracken - in each case it gets more light to the heathland plants. If using public transport we will meet at the City Hall Steps for 9:30am and then either catch a 52a to Wisewood School on Ben Lane and walk to the common from there, or catch the Tram to the Hillsborough interchange and walk to the common from there. We will be removing self set saplings in the 'meadow' grassy area, it is so busy there we shouldn't cause much disturbance to birds. But an option might be bracken raking at the west end of the Bilberry Pug area. Either way the Long Lane end is the closest to the work sites. The Commoners are meeting at 10am at the Long Lane end car park. If you have your own transport it will be best to use the Long Lane car park.

Sun 3rd Heathland Management at Wadsley & Loxley Common. Working for the Wadsley & Loxley Commoners. Something a bit different this month - the commoners are hoping to rake off an area of old accumulated bracken litter and scatter in its place some of this year's ripened heather seeds. This should encourage new seedlings to spread into those 'dead' areas. This will be in the area over the wall from the picnic bench. There is also no shortage of sapling-cutting to be done over in the meadow area, If using public transport we will meet at the City Hall Steps for 9:30am and then either catch a 52a to Wisewood School on Ben Lane and walk to the common from there, or catch the Tram to the Hillsborough interchange and walk to the common from there. This accumulates over the years forming a layer which prevents heather from seeding and spreading. The work site is close to the Long Lane end of the Common, this is where we built the Hiberniculum last time we were out. Working for the Wadsley & Loxley Commoners. .We will be clearing saplings from the meadow area and along the corridor linking it to the picnic table meadow. There is little grassland on the Common, so these areas are good for flowers and also an important place for waxcap fungi in the autumn. For a map see WALC diary and events (epizy.com). If using public transport we will meet at the City Hall Steps for 9:30am. A volunteer driver will be there to pick up a limited amount of people to driver to the site. If over capacity then the remaining people would either have to catch a 52a to the Hillsborogh interchange and walk to the common from there, or catch the Tram to Middlewood and walk to the common from there. If you have your own transport the Long Lane Car Park is closest to the worksite. The Wadsley and Loxely Commoners will meet at the Long Lane Car Park entrance from 10am if you need help getting to the site and are making your own way there.

Meet at the City Hall Steps for 9:30am. We plan to catch the Tram from the City Hall tram stop and get off the tram at the Bamford Street Tram Stop, which is closest to the site.

We plan to catch the 52a bus from the West St bus stop close to the City Hall at 9:48am. The bus stop to get off is at Wisewood School on Far Lane. We can then get on to the Common using the Rural Lane entrance. We should be working near the trig point and Long Lane Car Park, so its a bit of a walk. For those with their own transport the nearest car park is at the Long Lane entrance to the Common.
